Ah…the art of restraint.
It is much easier than one would think and is easily achievable with a creative mindset..as is evident in this close-up image of a custom kitchen range area, which quietly declares a clean, simple design style. When details come together in a cohesive fashion…if you look and listen carefully, you will see and hear a very subtle conversation amongst them. Good design details can be very simple in their medium with slight variances in finishes, textures and even colors. The key is proportion, scale and allowing enough negative space between them…so all can “breathe” and hold their own place while still becoming part of the bigger design picture.
In this image, there is a very subtle blending of four different colored hand-made ceramic tiles which is coordinated with an aged metal hood that ties in with the free-standing range metal color….which is a nice conversation starter. You’ll notice that the aged finish on the custom shutters provide an anchoring position to the cream colors and the depth of the color connects with the warm wood tones in the wood shelf and the simple metal corbels along with the base cabinetry.
Touches of the perfect glass containers holding unique condiments and other secret cooking spices are artfully, yet simply displayed. The slight pop of color is proudly displayed by the cookbook and touches of edamame green in the linen towel and the ceramic containers on the wood shelf. Each element quietly brings it’s own personality to the space with a timeless quality.
Shhhh…do you hear and see the conversation?
